Mukkala pulusu /Dappalam


Ingredients:
  • Bottle gourd - 1 cup
  • Pumpkin - 1 cup
  • Sweet potato - 1 cup
  • Lady finger - 6 small
  • Carrot - 1/2 cup
  • Drumstick - 5 pieces
  • Green chillies - 3
  • Tamarind - big lemon size
  • Rice flour - 2 - 3 tbsp
  • Jaggery - 1/2 lemon size
  • Salt - to taste
  • Turmeric - 1/4 tsp
  • Coriander leaves -2 tbsp for garnish

For Seasoning:

  • Whole red chillies - 2
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  • Jeera - 1/2 tsp
  • Methi seeds - 1/4 tsp
  • Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Hing -pinch
  • Curry leaves - few
Method:

  • Soak tamarind in 1 cup of hot water for about 10 minutes. Extract the juice and keep it aside
  • Clean and chop all the vegetables into big chunks, slit green chilles
  • Take vegetables, 2 1/2 cups of water, turmeric, green chillies and 1 tsp of salt in a vessel and boil until cooked but not too soft
  • Add tamarind juice, jaggery and cook for 5 minutes
  • Add little water to rice flour and mix without lumps. Add this to pulusu and let it boil for 5 more minutes
  • Heat oil in a small pan, add seasoning items and when they splutter, add to the above mixture
  • Garnish with coriander leaves
  • Serve with rice and mudda pappu
